Favored Son – Coat of Many Colors Tells of his dream of being over his family Hated by his brothers Thrown into a pit Sold into slavery Taken to Egypt Potipher’s slave. Placed over Potipher’s house Accused of trying to raping Potipher’s wife Thrown into Jail Placed in authority over the jail Pharaoh’s Cup Bearer and Baker get thrown in jail Joseph Interprets the Pharaoh’s Cup Bearer and Chief Baker’s dreams Joseph tells the Cup Bearer to remember me!! Cup Bearer Restored / Baker hanged Cup Bearer forgets about Joseph Joseph is 28 years old Two more long years passed where Joseph just kept on doing what he had always done ~ He honored God with his actions and attitude in whatever situation he found himself. Hardship and Suffering was just a regular day for Joseph, but he stayed Faithful and Focused on what honored God the most! He Trusted God even though he had no idea what the next day held, much less the rest of his life. Finally, at 30 years old ~ Joseph was Remembered and Rewarded! Pharaoh had a dream no one could interpret. Then the Chief Cup Bearer says to Pharaoh: Oh yeah, there was that one guy. Remember when you threw me & the Chief Baker in prison. We had dreams... he was able to interpret them for us... and he was right! I came back to serve you and the Chief Baker was executed and impaled on a pole. He asked me to say something to you when I got my job back but it slipped my mind. Is your God big enough to make the cup bearer forget, and then remember when the time is right? Imagine the disappointment Joseph had day after day… Where might Joseph have been if he’d been released 2 years earlier? Probably not in Egypt! God is at work in the unfair things of life too! Pharaoh sent for Joseph. 41:15-16 15 Then Pharaoh said to Joseph, “I had a dream last night, and no one here can tell me what it means. But I have heard that when you hear about a dream you can interpret it.” 16 “It is beyond my power to do this,” Joseph replied. “But God can tell you what it means and set you at ease.” ESV ~ “It’s not in me; God will give Pharaoh a favorable answer.” 24hrs earlier.... Joseph had no idea what was going to happen... Now he is standing in front of the most powerful person in the world being asked to do something that HE CAN’T DO.…but HE KNOWS GOD CAN! His whole life has been preparing him for “such a time as this”! All the trials, all the heartache... His confidence wasn’t in himself, but in God! Joseph heard the dream ~ God gave him the interpretation ~ Joseph gave God the Glory! 7 years of plenty ~ 7 years of famine God gave Joseph a wise plan for Pharaoh to find a wise man to save up 1/5 of the grain for the 7 good years of plenty so there will be enough for the 7 years of famine. 38 So Pharaoh asked his officials, “Can we find anyone else like this man so obviously filled with the spirit of God?” Even though Pharaoh was a pagan king, he recognized the work of God when he saw it... Not only in the interpretation of his dream, but in Joseph himself! So, Pharaoh appointed Joseph 2nd in command, only under himself.
