1 Peter 1:13-25 – Be Holy! 13-25 is basically a “HOW TO” of all that Peter has previously shared with us.… * How to have the right Attitude, “Being Truly Glad, Rejoicing” in our Trials. * How to endure & persevere through the Trails. * How to live day to day without giving in or giving up and run the race God set before us. 1 Peter 1:13-25 -– 13 So prepare your minds for action and exercise self-control. Put all your hope in the gracious salvation that will come to you when Jesus Christ is revealed to the world. So, (Therefore), in other words, think of all that Peter has already shared with us… PREPARE YOUR MIND FOR ACTION AND EXERCISE SELF-CONTROL. The battle is in the mind… Get your head right and then your heart, your hands and feet follow! What are we Focused on? What we’re thinking about constantly is what you’re Focused on! And most likely, it’s where we end up! To act and live differently… we MUST THINK differently! We can’t think like the world… have our mind set on the things of the world, and expect to follow Christ or be LIKE CHRIST! Ephesians 4:21-24 - 21 Since you have heard about Jesus and have learned the truth that comes from him, 22 throw off your old sinful nature and your former way of life, which is corrupted by lust and deception. 23 Instead, let the Spirit renew your thoughts and attitudes. 24 Put on your new nature, created to be like God—truly righteous and holy. Romans 12:1-2 – And so, dear brothers and sisters, I plead with you to give your bodies to God because of all he has done for you. Let them be a living and holy sacrifice—the kind he will find acceptable. This is truly the way to worship him. 2 Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then (after you’ve changed the way you think) you will learn to know God’s will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect. Colossians 3:1-17 - Since you have been raised to new life with Christ, set your sights (focus) on the realities of heaven, where Christ sits in the place of honor at God’s right hand. 2 Think about the things of heaven, not the things of earth. 3 For you died to this life, and your real life is hidden with Christ in God. 4 And when Christ, who is your life, is revealed to the whole world, you will share in all his glory. 5 So put to death the sinful, earthly things lurking within you. Have nothing to do with sexual immorality, impurity, lust, and evil desires. Don’t be greedy, for a greedy person is an idolater, worshiping the things of this world. 6 Because of these sins, the anger of God is coming. 7 You used to do these things when your life was still part of this world. 8 But now is the time to get rid of anger, rage, malicious behavior, slander, and dirty language. 9 Don’t lie to each other, for you have stripped off your old sinful nature and all its wicked deeds. 10 Put on your new nature, and be renewed as you learn to know your Creator and become like him. 11 In this new life, it doesn’t matter if you are a Jew or a Gentile, circumcised or uncircumcised, barbaric, uncivilized, slave, or free. Christ is all that matters, and he lives in all of us. 12 Since God chose you to be the holy people he loves, you must clothe yourselves with tenderhearted mercy, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience. 13 Make allowance for each other’s faults, and forgive anyone who offends you. Remember, the Lord forgave you, so you must forgive others. 14 Above all, clothe yourselves with love, which binds us all together in perfect harmony. 15 And let the peace that comes from Christ rule in your hearts. For as members of one body you are called to live in peace. And always be thankful.
