The Method of Christmas - Bill J. Last week JD preached on “The Message of Christmas” Part 1 of 3 on the Message, Method, & Miracle of Christmas. Jesus birth is what we celebrate, but Christmas is really about WHO JESUS IS and just HOW MUCH GOD LOVES YOU! Christmas has become more about our Culture than Christ! More about the stuff we’re getting, rather than the gift that’s been given through Jesus! 90% of Americans and 95% of Christians Celebrate Christmas. Only 46% of Americans celebrate Christmas as a Religious Holiday! Only 57% of people believe in the Virgin Birth, that Jesus was born in a manger (stable), Angels revealed His birth, and that Wise Men visited Jesus guided by a star. Evangelical Christians who were surveyed only 76% believed in all four of those elements of Jesus birth. (Down from 81% in 2014) What a great time for True Followers of Jesus Christ to educate, encourage and remind people of the REAL MESSAGE of Christmas! Here’s the message of Christmas ~ John 3:16-17nlt – 16 “For this is how God loved the world: He gave his one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life.17 God sent his Son into the world not to judge the world, but to save the world through him. For God SO LOVED the world... God gave His one and only Son... God sent his Son... 1 John 4:9-10nlt – God showed how much he loved us by sending his one and only Son into the world so that we might have eternal life through him. 10 This is real love—not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as a sacrifice to take away our sins. God’s love is a love that: Never changes! Is Selfless and Sacrificial! Can’t be earned! Is infinite – extravagant! God’s love Pursues! GOD pursues a love relationship with us! God is pursuing YOU right now! We experience God’s love by ACTING in Faith! Admit our need for a Savior. Confess that we’ve sinned against Him. Turn away from our sin. Repent ~ A godly sorrow that results in a change of behavior! Then we Live by Faith in Jesus! God demonstrated His love by fulfilling His promise to restore and redeem His creation through Jesus Christ! Col 1:19-20nlt ~ For God in all his fullness was pleased to live in Christ, 20 and through him God reconciled everything to himself. He made peace with everything in heaven and on earth by means of Christ’s blood on the cross. Today Pt 2: The Method of Christmas. The Message of Christmas is God’s Relentless Love for you... The Method is the HOW of the Message! God HAD to provide the way. We couldn’t then, and we can’t now... ~ Provide our own way... ~ Repair our own brokenness... ~ Establish our own righteousness... ~ WE can’t Restore our relationship with God and experience HIS Love on our own!
